A person-centred focusing-experiential psychotherapist
What ?
I am a person-centred focusing-experiential therapist (please translate!).
I could also add existential but let’s stick to the essentials!
What is it that I do exactly?
First of all, as a person-centred therapist, I try to be authentically present with my clients in a non-judgemental way, with empathy, unconditional positive regard and genuineness. This way of being keeps the interpersonal process alive and fruitful, leading to my clients' self-actualisation. It also facilitates healthy functioning in my clients, integrating, harmoniously, body sensations, emotions, cognitions and behavior. The richness of this interpersonal contact is key to the therapeutic process.
Furthermore, as a focusing-experiential therapist, I invite my clients to listen to the bodily felt experience that underlies all human feeling, thought and action. This may be achieved by paying attention to bodily sensations, while finding the right distance to emotions. The ensuing symbolisation enables my clients to relate to their experience and to trust their bodily felt sense of the direction it needs to take. This bodily wisdom and the ability to be present in the here and now of our experience constitute a valuable resource in the therapeutic process.
You most probably ended up being more confused than in the beginning!
Anyway, to summarise, I consider myself as a friendly and compassionate companion in my clients’ unique and personal journey, towards self-fulfilment and empowerment, into becoming the person they are meant to be.
